Reverse GeoGuessr: The Coordinate-Guessing Genre
"Reverse GeoGuessr" flips the classic formula. Instead of seeing a place and finding it on a map, you're given the place on the map and asked to describe it — most often by its latitude and longitude. It swaps photographic detective work for map fluency.
The classic formula, and its mirror
In the original format you're dropped into a street-level scene and you read the clues — signage, vegetation, the side of the road people drive on, architecture — to pinpoint your location on a world map. It's a game of visual deduction.
The reverse format removes the photo entirely. You see a marker on the map and must translate its position into something precise. In GpsGuessr, that "something precise" is the pair of numbers that locate any point on Earth — its coordinates.
Why it's a genuinely different skill
- No photographic clues. You can't lean on road signs or car models; you work purely from geography.
